Omeath

Omeath

Omeath is a classic railway village, created by the opening of the line from Newry to Greenore ferry port in 1876.  Today the Greenway path follows the train route along the shoreline 8km to Carlingford. Omeath was a Gaeltacht where Irish was spoken into the mid-20th century, particularly in the mountain townlands and it is still a stronghold of every kind of traditional culture.
