Explore the Peninsula

Start with the viewpoint on Black Mountain. Drive up the Turf Road and park by the TV Mast. Behind it is Clermont Cairn, a Neolithic tomb from where you can get a 360-degree panoramic view of the whole peninsula and Carlingford Lough. Look north to Newry, west to Slieve Gullion and east to the  Lough and the Mournes. South-east across the Long Woman's Grave is the great slab of black volcanic rock called Slieve Foy. Straight ahead is the great grey pile of Carnawaddy, burial place of Fionn Mac Cumhail's dog Bran. Pick out a particular bit of mountain, coast or lough, river, forest or hiking trail, and just head off.
